This is the gist of the question to Jesus from the Pharisees about whether it is legal to get a divorce (Mark 10:2).
Anyone who wanted a legal reason to stop eating chocolate cake shows by his question he has never eaten chocolate cake. The Pharisees show by their question that they have never experienced the pleasure of marriage the way God created marriage to be.
C.S. Lewis observes that "marriage is the reward for love." Most people have this backwards. They thought if they got married they would get love. But marriage is not about getting love. This is eros love. Marriage is all about giving love. This is agape love.
There are three stages in marriage: 1. The Honeymoon stage where I can do no wrong and get love. 2. "The Honey I'm pregnant" where I can do no right and I get flack. 3. The Land of Milk and Honey stage where my innocence is not of one without awareness, but of a person who has been made innocent by a forgiveness of sins. This is for-giving and giving love.
The reward is marriage. It does not come naturally, but can be learned a long the way.
Marriage is not for wimps. It takes heart. The French word is "Coeur" where we get the word for "courage." It is better than chocolate cake!
